Something is becoming tedious. Taking and editing photos feels less special and more ordinary. The good part is that it’s become part of daily life; the bad part is that it’s not fun. Perhaps because of this, even though I have a separate camera, I mostly just keep shooting acquaintances, so I haven’t left many photos worth posting publicly on the blog, and it’s mostly been phone-camera still lifes and landscapes. It’s a shame.

The reason the photos are monotonous and ordinary is that there were no special experiences this year. Since I’m substituting a year-end review and retrospective with posting photos, let me vent a little here: this was the first year in my life where I spent a year with no particular meaning. It feels like an entire year just vanished. In a positive light, one could say it passed without major difficulties, but there was little realistic and fierce contemplation, little serendipity.

When I break it down in detail, it’s clearly not like that at all, yet the overall impression is just as monotonous as this year’s photos — perhaps I’ve reached diminishing marginal utility. It feels so wasteful that there aren’t many memorable special events, so next year I want to artificially create new experiences by going places I haven’t been and doing things I haven’t done.

If there’s something to try beyond Lightroom, it’s interpreting and editing a photo as a single source. The same goes for drawing — recently I’ve been interested in placing text on image sources. Should I say it breaks through the ceiling of non-verbal expression? The effect of overlaying context works remarkably well, so I like it.
